THOMAS STEVENS HEATS IT UP IN NEW YORK CITY AND AMSTERDAM

Weber Fine Art artist Thomas Stevens discovered the thrill of working with molten glass at Urban Glass in Brooklyn, New York while working as a graphic designer. Later that year Stevens relocated to Amsterdam to study glassblowing, molds, and Venitian techniques at Tetterode Glasatelier, Holland’s first open-access glassblowing shop.

Thomas collaborated with interior designer Alex Meitlis to create an environment for Ottelenghi, a gourmet food shoppe in London’s Notting Hill.

Thomas returned to New York City in 2003 to continue the development of his designs.

Stevens says, “We admire beauty in art objects on display. We experience beauty in those we use.” He creates objects to be seen, held, and used. Each glasswork is a one-of-a-kind object. Freehand techniques encourage the piece to evolve into an organic shape and express its unique character.

The works are thick and weighty, shifting our perception of glass as fragile and delicate. They are durable and invite use - at home, on a footpath, on or in a garden.
